WHO ARE WE?

The Society of Hope Sabah began its life in 2007 and its focus in the early days was on providing support for impoverished communities and for people affected by natural disasters.

In the last few years, our focus has been on supporting children from B40 communities in Sabah. In 2020 and 2021 we started Project Hope Milk Fund to provide milk powder and food aid to children between the ages of 1-5 in various districts. We were able to furnish 7474 units of milk powder for these children despite working with limited resources and manpower.

In 2022 we turned our focus to supporting the educational needs of children from the B40 communities in Sabah, because it is our sincere belief that education has the power to lift children from the cycle of poverty. From the time we started this program “Jom Balik Sekolah” in January 2022 to the time we gave out the last stationery and book bag in December 2022, we managed to distribute 10,000 units of stationery and exercise books. We went to 80 schools across 20 districts in Sabah and even earned a National Record from the Malaysia Book of Records has having distributed the most number of stationery sets to needy children in Malaysia.

However, despite our best efforts, there was still more that could have been done. We were not able to cover many other districts in Sabah due to a lack of funding. With your support and the support from public and private sectors, we hope to cover these areas in 2023 and beyond. Our hope is that by doing so, it will lessen the financial burden of parents and teachers who struggle to provide for these educational necessities amidst rising cost of living and an economy still emerging from the pandemic.

We believe that these efforts are in line with our mission to rebuild communities in need so that we can all rise together. Supporting future generations to achieve their aspirations is one of our main principles. We hope that members of the public will continue to support these goals so that we can be assured that no child is left behind.

For individuals and companies looking to adopt an NGO for your corporate social responsibility needs, please do consider the Society of Hope Sabah as your NGO of choice. As of 2021, this society has attained a charitable status in Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri which means that all donations made to the society are eligible for tax exemptions. We rely on the support of all parties and we thank those who have contributed their funds, time and effort in helping us achieve our mission.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
